Gynaecology (reproductive medicine)

Your chance to fulfil your dream of having children

At the German Oral Health Foundation (DMS), we want to accompany you on your journey to a healthier, fitter life. Personalised prevention using functional biomarkers such as aMMP-8 plays a key role in this. The aMMP-8 test is particularly suitable for women who want to have children, couples with fertility problems and high-risk pregnancies. Take the test now at your gynaecologist's practice or at any OralFitness® dental centre.

The aMMP-8 saliva screening

The aMMP-8 saliva screening measures the destruction of the extracellular matrix¹ and collagenolysis² in real time. Collagen is the most common structural protein in the human body. It strengthens the oral immune barrier by giving the oral mucosa structure and stability, thus making it more difficult for pathogens to penetrate. Damage to the oral mucosa allows inflammation and pathogens to enter the bloodstream, promoting systemic diseases. This is why prevention is so effective.

Many people are unaware that inflammation in the mouth can affect overall health. It plays a particularly important role for women during sensitive phases of life, such as when trying to conceive or during pregnancy. An innovative test helps to detect this inflammation at an early stage: measuring aMMP-8 in saliva. This reduces the risk of complications and actively protects the health of both mother and child.

In these situations, aMMP-8 measurement is particularly useful:

When planning to have children

  • To detect silent inflammation in the mouth at an early stage, which could impair fertility.
  • Periodontitis can have a negative effect on hormonal balance and the implantation of the egg cell.

At the beginning of pregnancy (ideally before the 12th week of pregnancy)

  • To reduce the risk of premature birth, low birth weight or pre-eclampsia.
  • Early detection and treatment of inflammation has a positive effect on the course of pregnancy.

If you have a history of premature births or miscarriages

  • To clarify hidden inflammatory causes.
  • Periodontal inflammation is considered a possible, often overlooked contributing factor.

In cases of increased risk of pre-eclampsia or corresponding family history

  • Inflammation is considered a key factor in the development of pre-eclampsia.
  • Early diagnosis can help minimise risks.

In PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)

  • Women with PCOS are more likely to have undiagnosed inflammation in their mouths.
  • The test can provide indications of systemic inflammation.

For diabetes or prediabetes

  • Diabetes increases the risk of periodontitis – and vice versa.
  • The measurement supports the assessment of individual inflammation risk.

As part of a general preventive check-up for high-risk patients

  • Periodontitis can be present even without acute symptoms.
  • Early detection helps to prevent or delay systemic diseases.

How does the test work?

The aMMP-8 test is quick, painless and does not require a blood sample. It is simply a saliva test – convenient and simple, carried out at the specialist's surgery. If the results are abnormal, a referral to a dentist is recommended. The test opens up new perspectives for interdisciplinary, personalised inflammatory medicine.
