Periodontal diseases are on the rise. However, in the majority of those affected, the degradation processes are recognized too late. The aMMP-8 biomarker technology now enables you to identify so-called progression patients and integrate them into needs-based dental hygiene programs.
Due to the determination of a direct analysis result, the necessary patient compliance increases and your dental hygiene department benefits from the additional expertise gained through biomarker diagnostics, while at the same time increasing patient satisfaction.
Every second person is affected by periodontitis
High prevalence, great need for prevention
The results of the Fifth German Oral Health Study (DMS V) show how important the prevention of periodontitis and its early detection are for dental practices. Even though the prevalence of periodontitis has been falling for many years now - especially severe cases - one in two 35 to 44-year-olds in Germany is affected by this disease. 43.4% have moderate periodontitis and around 10% have severe periodontitis. In addition, inflammatory diseases of the periodontium increase with age. Between the ages of 65 and 74, 20% are already affected by severe periodontitis and by the age of 75, the proportion of people suffering from moderate or severe periodontitis is as high as 90%.
Only 3-4% receive appropriate therapy
28 million people* need more dental hygiene services
In view of demographic change and the "shift of chronic oral diseases to an older age" (DMS V), a high prevalence and an increasing need for treatment can still be expected. Experts estimate that around 28 million adults in Germany require periodontal treatment. (Micheelis 2008). This contrasts with around one million periodontal treatments that were billed via the statutory health insurance funds in 2010 (KZBV Yearbook 2010). This means that only around 3 to 4% of those affected receive appropriate treatment. Possible reasons for this discrepancy: periodontal diseases are not sufficiently recognized or their treatment is not pursued.

Younger seniors lose an average of 11.1 teeth
Early detection is the best prevention
The authors of the latest Barmer Dental Report (2017) come to the conclusion that periodontitis is treated too late in many patients. This means that even adequate treatment can no longer prevent tooth loss and the deterioration continues: While younger adults lose an average of 2.1 teeth, data for younger seniors show an average number of 11.1 lost teeth. To date, chronic oral diseases have not been contained; instead, their diagnosis is simply postponed until later in life.
This means that the earlier oral collagen degradation processes are detected, the sooner action can be taken to prevent the development of periodontitis.
Supplement existing PA diagnostics with PeriSafe PRO DRS
With PerioSafe PRO DRS, you can identify patients who need more preventive services as needed, often before degenerative and inflammatory damage becomes visible. Active oral collagen degradation can be detected in just a few minutes with the delegable test. If necessary, the recall intervals for prophylaxis can be shortened to improve or maintain the oral health of those affected.
